Brindisi is a city rich in monuments from various eras, the symbol of the city has always been represented by the Ancient Roman columns built in the 2nd century AD, which represented a port reference for ancient sailors.

Also worth visiting for their important historical value are the Vasche Limarie, an ancient Roman aqueduct that brought water from a well 10 km away to ancient Brindisi.

The oldest and most important castle in the city is the Swabian Castle, also called the large or land castle, the fortified castle was built in 1227 by Frederick II, as a residence for himself and his garrisons.

Strategically positioned at the entrance to the port on the island of Sant'Andrea stands the complex consisting of the Alfonsino or Aragonese Castle from 1492, called red due to the colour of the carparo stones, and the Forte del Mare from 1558.

Walking through the streets of Brindisi, tourists will come across numerous churches from various eras.

Of great importance is the Cathedral, or rather the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, whose construction, at the behest of Pope Urban, began in 1089 and was completed in 1143.

The church of Santa Maria del Casale, near the airport, is a splendid example of 13th-century Romanesque-Gothic style.

A typical example of Romanesque art is the church of San Benedetto with the adjoining convent of Benedictine nuns, dating back to 1089..
