The city of Cutrofiano dates back to Roman times, the origins of the town.
It was Greekized by the domination of the Byzantines, who influenced its cultural and linguistic customs and habits.
From 1088 to 1463 Cutrofiano was part of the County of Soleto and, from those years, of the Principality of Taranto. It was a fief of the Filomarino family for a long time.
The most important historical building and property in Cutrofiano, in southern Puglia , was and still remains the Ducal Palace, or Filomarini, from the name of the last feudal lords.
