Taviano is a municipality in Salento , in the province of Lecce and was recognized as a city on 2 May 1996 by decree of the President of the Italian Republic.
Taviano is located in the southern part of the Salento peninsula, in Puglia and has a hamlet called Marina di Mancaversa which overlooks the Ionian Sea.
Particular importance is given to flower cultivation, which in recent years has granted the use of the official quality control mark to “ TAVIANO CITTÀ DEI FIORI” with the aim of characterizing and enhancing the vast range of typical floricultural products.
In the municipality of Taviano there is a fairly compact and homogeneous historic centre, with narrow streets and blocks featuring a very simple building typology, typical of southern Salento.
