The origins of the city of Maglie , in the province of Lecce, date back to the 12th century. The first historical records date back to the 12th century, when the Lubelli family assumed rights to the fiefdom of Maglie, rights which they maintained for approximately four centuries under a baronial title.

In 1608 it was purchased by the Lecce patrician Paolo Maresgallo and in 1707 the fiefdom passed first to Anna Carreras and then to the Prato family.

In 1711 it passed to the Filomarini family and finally to the Capece family, Barons of Barbarano.

Maglie enjoys a strategic geographical position as it is an obligatory stop for those wishing to reach some of the seaside resorts of Salento.
