How to get to Salento by any means

Geographically speaking, we can define Salento and the Salento peninsula as that extreme strip of land in Puglia that extends for more than 150 km between the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea with a surface area of over 700 km².

Salento.it provides information on transportation options for getting to Salento , in the province of Lecce.
Arriving from Northern Italy by car, take the A-14 motorway, take the Bari Nord exit and continue on the Brindisi – Lecce highway until you reach Lecce, the capital of the Salento peninsula.

Once you arrive in Lecce, you must take the East or West ring road towards Otranto or Gallipoli , to reach the Adriatic coast and the Ionian coast of Salento.
From Otranto you then continue along the Adriatic coast to Porto Badisco, Santa Cesarea Terme, Castro Marina, Andrano and Tricase.
From Gallipoli, continue along the Ionian coast to Mancaversa and Torre Suda to then reach the marinas of Ugento: Torre San Giovanni, Torre Mozza and Lido Marini.
To reach the Maldives of Salento , you need to follow the road for a few kilometers and you will arrive at Torre Pali, Pescoluse and Torre Vado and the marina of San Gregorio.
To get to Santa Maria di Leuca , you can follow 2 roads:
the one that cuts through the Salento hinterland, and therefore the SS 16 Lecce – Maglie, and then continue along the famous SS 275 Maglie – Leuca, which however passes through numerous towns.
Or the smoother one on the SS 101 Lecce – Gallipoli, and then continue on the state road 274 Gallipoli – Santa Maria di Leuca
Follow the signs to reach important locations in the hinterland such as:
Maglie, Galatina, Nardò, Martano, Casarano, Copertino, Specchia, Avetrana, Manduria and Mesagne, and if you want you can also consult the road map of Salento.
For those coming from Taranto it is better to reach Brindisi and from there go down to Lecce because the road is smoother.
The driving distance between Lecce and Brindisi is about 39 km, and it takes half an hour by car, with a comfortable drive from Lecce to Brindisi.
There are several direct Frecciarossa connections available to reach Puglia and Salento.

Through the Trenitalia website, you can depart from Turin, Florence, Verona, Venice, Rome, Milan, Bologna, Rimini, Ancona and Pescara to reach the Apulian cities of Foggia, Barletta, Bari, Brindisi and Lecce.

From Lecce station you can reach the main 4 stations of the province:
Brindisi Airport is about 50 km from Lecce , and is known as the Salento airport.
It serves the entire Salento peninsula and the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto, and is the best way to get to Salento.
It allows you to quickly reach important cities such as Mesagne, Nardò, Gallipoli , Ostuni, Fasano, Manduria and all the most beautiful seaside resorts such as Otranto, Porto Cesareo, Ugento and Santa Maria di Leuca.
Gallipoli does not have an airport and to reach “the beautiful city”, a tourist destination with many visitors, in the summer, you have to follow the same route.
The distance from Brindisi to Gallipoli is approximately 65 km, and this splendid seaside town can be reached in about an hour's journey.
The main airport in Puglia is Bari – Palese and is approximately 180 km from the capital of Salento.
This last stopover is ideal for visiting the cities of Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, the trulli of the Itria Valley with the towns of Alberobello and Castellana Grotte.
To reach Lecce by plane, we recommend landing at Brindisi-Casale Airport, which is about half an hour's drive from Southern Florence, and this airport has several daily flights to and from the main Italian cities.
